The story is set in the early 1900`s against the backdrop of political resistance during the Bengal partition, when the society is full of unrest. Binodini, the child widow played by Aishwarya Rai is out to wreak vengeance on the society, who she believes is responsible for her pitiful state of existence. The story is about the relationships between four young people, two men and two women. Mahendra (Prosenjit) is a spoilt young man, the pride and despair of his widowed mother Rajlakshmi (Lily Chakraborty). Behari (Tota Roychowdhury), his closest friend is almost like another son to Rajlakshmi of different character to Mahendra and ofcourse Binodini (Aishwariya Rai) . Mahendra finally settles down with Ashalata (Raima Sen), a girl who was originally engaged to Behari. Rajlakshmi meets Binodini in her childhood home and impulsively brings her back to Calcutta with her.
